Press Release: Chaz Ortiz in PROOF skate video
And while we're on the topic, here's some more international team news for your eyes ...
April 28, 2009—VISTA, CA – DC is proud to support Chaz Ortiz in his first full-length video part in the upcoming skate film PROOF, set to release on DVD, May 1, 2009. An iTunes release will follow on June 15th, featuring exclusive content, not available on DVD.
Since joining the DC am squad in February 2009, the 14-year-old has been filming nonstop for both PROOF and the first-ever DC AM video. In between trips, Chaz impressively placed 3rd among a stacked field at the Tampa Pro in March, and secured an invite to the prestigious Maloof Money Cup event in July.
With his first-ever video part, Chaz joins an impressive roster of skateboarders in PROOF, including Paul Rodriguez, Mike Mo Capaldi, Torey Pudwill, and many others. Active Ride Shops will host a series of PROOF screenings in several of its Southern California locations throughout May 2009.

Press Release: Nick Dompierre Joins DC Shoes and Apparel
Here's a press release that you might be interested in. Another massive addition to our international team.
APRIL 24, 2009 – Vista, CA – DC is proud to welcome professional skateboarder Nick Dompierre to its footwear and apparel team. It takes just one look at this month’s cover of TransWorld SKATEboarding (June 2009) magazine to witness the raw talent Nick brings to the team.
“I’m excited to be a part of one of the most legendary skate companies of all time – on the same team as Danny, Colin, Kalis and everyone else; getting to shoot photos with Blabac - it’s pretty amazing,” said Nick. “Working with DC is giving some great opportunities, like building my first DC pro model shoe. I’m looking forward to a long future here.”
At only 22 years old, Nick just landed on his fourth cover – having now appeared on the covers of Thrasher, Slap, The Skateboard Mag, and most recently (and arguably the heaviest) TransWorld SKATEboarding. Add that to his long list of additional accomplishments, including his 2006 nomination for TransWorld’s Street Skater of the Year as an AM, and it’s no wonder why skateboarders around the world are anticipating his latest video part in the upcoming Real Skateboards film.
“The dynamic that Nick’s aggressive style brings to the DC team is an amazing addition to our roster. He’s fast, raw and so talented,” said Ken Block, DC Co-Founder and Chief Brand Officer. "We look forward to working with Nick.”
DC is excited to release to the world Nick’s intro part featuring unseen and new footage today at http://www.dcskateboarding.tv.

Luke Hughes wins Volcom VQS
Following up a second place in the Corona Super 16 (he trailed Maz Quinn by just .5 points), DC's Luke Hughes continues his amazing recent run of form by winning the Volcom VQS. Now he's off to California to compete in the World VQS finals. Good work Luke! Here's a little rundown of the final.
The last final of the day was the Pro Am division with two local surfers, Luke Hughes and Leon Santorik going head to head. In a 15-minute final, they knew that they were going to have to post massive scores to take home the winner’s trophy and a chance to represent their country in the World VQS finals in California. It was Leon Santorik that landed the first blow and picked up a perfect left-hander, smashing it all the way down the point to pick himself up a 8 point ride. Hughes waited out the back patiently, he knew he had his work cut out for him, but when he took off on a cracker set wave and didn’t hold back, unleashing a series of beyond back hand vertical reo’s, he was awarded a near perfect 9-point ride from the judges. He knew he was back in the lead with 7 minutes remaining. Leon knew he needed a decent wave to take it out and when he paddled into a bomb the crowd thought he might of taken out the win. With 3 massive backhand blasts he had another 8-point ride added to his heat total of 16. With only 3 minutes left in the final and Hughes knowing he needed better than a 7-point ride to take out the final, his patience paid off when a 5-foot set came straight to him. He knew if he surfed this wave well he would have it in the bag. With the crowd on the point holding their breath he didn’t disappoint with 6 of the biggest turns all day. He picked himself up a near perfect 9.7 and also the winner’s trophy and the opportunity at a World VQS title to his name. After making the Final of the VQS 5 times Luke Hughes was ecstatic to finally have the prestigious title to his name In his winning speech Luke Hughes dedicated his fabulous win to his dad.
